Even though the usual Christmas lights ‘switch on’ events aren’t taking place, the Christmas lights will still shine bright across the district as part of #LightUp - a new celebration of light-inspired activities and initiatives.
The lights can be enjoyed by residents attending their normal essential shopping
or physical activity, and those still attending school and work during this period. Photos are also being shared online, allowing residents to enjoy it and take part.
As part of this celebration, residents are encouraged to #LightUp their own homes, or businesses and share pictures online.
Cllr Jacquie Speight, Wakefield Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Leisure and
Sport, said: “The usual switch on events won’t take place this year but the Christmas lights will still be helping us get the festive period underway - even if it all feels quite different to usual.”
